This in percentage\n        is called 50%.<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">1\/2 can be expressed as a decimal as 0.50.<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">1\/2, 50% and 0.50 all mean the same. <\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">So to convert 0.50 in percentage we multiply\n        the decimal by 100 and put a % sign.<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">This is how we would convert any decimal\n        into a percentage for example 0.75 x 100 = 75%.<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">To convert a fraction to percentage we first\n        convert the fraction into a decimal and then into\n        percentage.<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">For example 3\/4 = 0.75 = 75%.<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\"><u>Interest and Discount<br>\n        <\/u>Percentages are useful here as they are used for\n        expressing rates of interest.<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">The formula is <\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">Interest = Amount x Time x Rate<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">For example if we want to find out how much\n        interest will $1000 earn in 1yr at an annual interst rate\n        of 6%.<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">6% = 6\/100<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">(6\/100)x 1000 = 60<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">So the answer is $60<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">Another example: How much interest will\n        $1000 earn in 6 months at an annual rate of 6%.<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">Here we use the formula <\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">Interest = Amount x Time x Rate<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">6 months is 1\/2 of a year<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">6 % is 6\/100 or 3\/50 <\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">Using our formula: Interest = $1000 x 1\/2 x\n        3\/50 = $30<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">The annual rate is for 12 months<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">We are looking at 6 months<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">This type of interest calculation is called <strong>Simple\n        Interest<\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">For Discount the formula is:<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">Discount = Cost x Rate of Discount<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">For example what is discount if a car\n        costing $5000 is discounted at 5%?<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">5% is = 0.05<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">Discount = 0.05 x $5000 = $250<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">Another formula gives us the Rate of\n        Discount<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">Rate of Discount = (Cost &#8211; Price) \/ Cost<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">What would be the discount if a car costing\n        $6000 is sold for $5400<\/font><\/p>\n        <p align=\"left\"><font color=\"#004080\" size=\"4\"\n        face=\"Arial\">Rate of Discount = (6000 &#8211; 5400)\/6000 =\n        600\/6000 = 10\/100 or 10%<\/font><\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Percentage is another way of expressing fractions.
